The Steering Hose Kit consists of the high pressure and return side hoses of the power steering system. The steering hoses carry the steering fluid to and from the pump to the reservoir. The pressurized steering fluid in transferred from the fluid pump to the steering rack through the high pressure steering hose. The high pressure hose is made of a material that can withstand the internal and pulsating pressure of the steering fluid that flows through it.

The return side hose is a low pressure hose that sends the low pressure steering fluid from the rack to the reservoir. Though similar in construction to the high pressure steering hose, the return side hose does not need compression fittings as the high pressure hose does. The hoses, therefore, keep the steering fluid circulating in the system for as long as the car is running. The steering hoses are constructed to withstand the varying conditions of their environment, from extreme heat generated by the engine and its neighboring parts to low temperatures.

However, over time they can become worn or can spring a leak. A leaky hose will cause the fluid flowing through it to spatter onto the neighboring parts and can pose a dangerous risk as the fluid is inflammable. In addition, a damaged hose will drain your steering fluid supply, causing the steering to become stiff and difficult to manage. You should check the state of your power steering hoses regularly and replace them if they are damaged
